In short
Slate & Sum is a static site. There is no account, no comment box, no newsletter and no form that asks you for anything. The only personal data involved is what your browser sends to any web server, plus what advertising cookies collect if you allow them.
Server logs
The web server records each request in a standard access log: the page requested, the time, the referring page, the browser user-agent string and the IP address. These logs are used to keep the site up, to spot abusive traffic and to see which problems people actually read. They are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis and are not combined with any other data set.
Google AdSense and DoubleClick
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie to enable interest-based advertising. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
Third-party vendors and ad networks may also place or read cookies on your browser, and may collect the IP address, the page address, the browser type and the time of the request in order to measure and target advertising.

Traffic measurement
Aggregate traffic figures — page views and referrers — are read from the same server logs described above. They are not used to build a profile of any individual reader.

The legal basis for the limited processing described above is legitimate interest in operating and securing the site (server logs), and consent for advertising cookies. Consent is asked for before those cookies are set and can be withdrawn at any time.
You have the right to request access to personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable form, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
Because the site holds no accounts and no profiles, the practical scope of these rights is limited to log entries and to advertising identifiers held by Google rather than by this site. Requests about advertising identifiers should go to Google through the ad settings link above; requests about anything else can come to [email protected].
If you are a California resident
You have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, to request deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA and CPRA.
This site does not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies may constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising; you can opt out through Google Ads Settings or through a consent message shown on your first visit. Slate & Sum does not knowingly collect or sell the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. The puzzles are written for readers who already enjoy mathematics and are comfortable with a written proof.

Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes are described in the entry rather than made silently.
